The importance of detailed ventilation and thermal measurements for hydro generator refurbishment
On the basis of common measurements on generator’s cooling-system, as well as using our own previous experiences, there is proposed the scope of detailed ventilation and thermal investigations necessary for a thorough analysis of hydro generator’s ventilation and cooling system. Such investigations should include measurements of active parts’, cooling air’s and cooling water’s temperatures, then measurements of cooling air pressures, as well as flow rates measurements of cooling air and cooling water.
For illustration, there are shown some of results obtained by measurements on hydro generators in operation, and the problems with such measurements are pointed out. The guidelines for possible improvements of methods and procedures and recommendations for using alternative measuring devices are also given in the paper.
